Get set up
1. Create your Cupla account — Essential
Download Cupla from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and create your account. You can only create a new account in the mobile app, not on Desktop.
2. Connect with your partner — Essential
Most of Cupla's value comes from being connected with your partner. Send them an invite from the app to sync your accounts.
3. Set up a Passkey — Optional
Passkeys give you a faster, more secure way to sign in than passwords. Worth setting up early so you don't have to think about it later.
Connect your calendars
4. Sync your calendars — Essential
Connect the calendars you already use (Google, Outlook, Apple). Cupla will show your schedule and your partner's side by side.
See Choosing what calendars to sync to Cupla and What is the difference between Direct Connect and Device Calendars?
5. Sync your Cupla calendar back to your device calendar — Optional
Add your Cupla calendar to Google Calendar, Apple iCal, or Outlook so shared events and date nights also show up alongside the calendars you already check throughout the day.
See How can I see my Cupla calendar in my Google calendar? and How can I see my Cupla calendar on my Apple iCal?
6. Set per-calendar privacy — Recommended
For each calendar you sync, decide whether your partner sees full event details or just that you're busy. Useful for work calendars or anything you'd prefer to keep private.
7. Assign each calendar to Me, My Partner, or Us — Essential
Tell Cupla which calendars belong to you, which to your partner, and which are shared. This is what makes the side-by-side view work properly.
8. Add a public holiday calendar — Optional
Add public holidays for your country so you can see them alongside your schedule.
9. Set up your work hours — Optional
If you have regular work hours, Cupla can shade them on your calendar so your partner can see when you're typically working.
Personalise your Cupla
10. Add your birthday and profile image — Recommended
Adding your birthday helps Cupla support your partner with reminders, and a profile image makes the app feel more personal.
11. Choose your colour scheme — Optional
Pick a colour each for You, Me, and Us. Your colour choices are personal to your device, so you and your partner can each pick a scheme you prefer.
12. Set up tags — Optional
Tags let you label and colour-code events, to-dos, and list items beyond the You/Me/Us colours — for example for a child, a pet, work, or a project. Tags are shared between you and your partner.
13. Set your default calendar view — Optional
Choose the calendar view Cupla opens to by default — for example, day, schedule, or month. Go to More > Personalization > Home Screen > Launch Screen and select your preferred view.
14. Customise your homescreen shortcuts — Optional
Cupla's home screen has shortcuts to your most-used features. You can customise which shortcuts appear, so the things you use most are always one tap away. Go to More > Personalization > Home Screen > Shortcuts to choose your shortcuts.
15. Set your notification preferences — Recommended
Choose which notifications you want to receive. Spending a minute on this early saves notification fatigue later.
Use Cupla well together
16. Add your key dates (including your anniversary) — Recommended
Add anniversaries, birthdays, trips, and other milestones so they show up as countdowns on your home screen. Your anniversary is a great one to add first.
17. Set a Date Frequency Goal — Recommended
Use the Date Planner to set a Date Frequency Goal (for example, once a week or once a fortnight). Cupla will track your dates and nudge you when it's been a while.
18. Schedule your first date together — Recommended
There's no better way to start using Cupla than putting your first shared date on the calendar. Tag it as a date so it counts towards your Date Frequency Goal.
19. Start a Wishlist together — Optional
Set up a Wishlist for the things you want to do, try, or buy together — a future trip, restaurants to try, or gift ideas. You can also add items directly from TikTok, Instagram, or the web.
20. Add a home screen widget — Optional
Put a Cupla widget on your phone's home screen so you can see your schedule, to-dos, grocery list, or countdowns at a glance.
21. Sign in on Desktop — Optional
Cupla for Desktop is great for weekly planning sessions, longer browsing, or working from a laptop. Sign in at cupla.app/web using the same details you use on mobile.
22. Try Cupla AI — Optional
Ask Cupla AI to plan a date, find free time in your schedules, or brain dump a stream of thoughts. Currently available on iOS.
A few habits worth building
Beyond the set-up itself, these habits help couples get the most out of Cupla over time:
Do a weekly check-in. Once a week — Sunday evening is a popular choice — open Cupla together (Desktop is great for this) and walk through the week ahead.
Tag any shared event as a date so it counts towards your Date Frequency Goal.
Add to your Wishlist as you go. When you see something on TikTok, Instagram, or anywhere on the web, share it straight to Cupla rather than trying to remember it later.
Revisit your set-up periodically. As life changes — new job, baby, move — your calendars and tags may need a refresh.
